New Baseball Glove for 2014 Season

This past fall I lost my favorite baseball glove. It was a Mizuno outfield 12.5 inch model, which is discontinued! I looked high and low, but could not find my glove anywhere. The only thing I can figure, I probably dropped it in the dugout or parking lot at my sons fall ball game. If it was picked up by someone, they didn't turn it in to the little league organization. I won't lie, my heart hurt for a few days over this loss.
I continued on with my baseball and coaching my sons travel team. I had to get out my 25+ year old Rawlings. It was awesome and worked great, back in the day! I retired the old guy about ten years ago. For anyone who plays the game, you get a custom to how a glove feels and works. In my case, I felt naked and had no confidence using my old glove. For a baseball player, this is the worst feeling you can have on the baseball field.
My new glove search started by looking at all kinds of gloves in stores, second hand shops, fellow teammate gloves, and online search. I tried to do the best possible research, to ensure my new glove purchase would be a good one.
I looked at Wilson, Mizuno, Akadema, Nokana, Rawlings, Nike, Easton, and SSK. These are all large, high profile glove manufacturers. Lets call them the "Big Boys"! These gloves are readily accessible in stores. Their is not much opportunity to create your own style or glove design. A couple manufacturers offer it but it will cost you bookoo dollars! Huge cost is a major negative in my book!
Some of the gloves felt good and some not so much. Some of the gloves were "very" pricey and others were "affordable". You all get me on the cost statement! None of the gloves were good, both in feel and affordability. It was one of two things, the glove felt good but was too darn expensive or the glove was in my price range but didn't feel good.
Not satisfied with the "Big Boys", I changed my search to lesser known, lower profile manufacturers. Lets call them "Micro-Brew" size!!!! I looked at manufacturers like Rico, Valle, 44 Gloves, Salinas, Guerrero, Brett Brothers, Vinci Pro, and Barraza. The main problem with these manufacturers is the limited accessibility to their gloves, prior to making your purchase. These gloves are not in chain stores, so if you don't live within a few miles of the company, you're not going to be able to try on the gloves. So, the "how they feel" is out of the question.
All of these "Micro-Brew" companies were searched on social media and web site links. The key thing in this search, you have to read customer reviews!! You have to look at "ALL" the reviews!!!! This is difficult for a few reasons: first, everyone has different ideas of how a glove should feel; stiff, loose, over sized, undersized, etc. Second, you cannot be sure if the glove is good or bad because the person tells just the pros or just the cons. Some reviews are all "Spectacular" "Awesome" Excellent". Some reviews are "Bad" "Terrible" "Trash". Very few reviews had pros and cons. Lastly, are the people being sincere or just simply trying to get noticed by the manufacturer???!!! (Clearly, I'm not trying to get noticed. This is taking a lot longer than I expected!!!)
The best part of purchasing a glove from the "Micro-Brew" guys, "YOU" get to "DESIGN" your own glove. You can choose all the colors, lace style, web style, binding style, single stitching, double stitching, add your name or nickname, use block lettering or cursive, and add flags patches, of  just about any state or country(some companies offer the flag deal, not all). I think you get my point. I believe having the ability to create your glove gives you a much better perception of you picked it out, you designed it, it's going to be awesome!!!
After about four weeks of trying on gloves, talking to others about gloves, and researching, I finally made a decision. I decided to purchase a glove from a "Micro-Brew" company. Let me say, this glove purchase has been the most in depth, nerve racking experience of all my glove purchases, EEEEVVVEEERRR (Squints scary story voice!)!!! A "Leap of Faith" in my mind!
Price wise, the "Micro-Brew" are pretty comparable to the "Big Boys". The "Micro-Brew" guys are a bit less and have flexibility of price without sacrificing quality. We have all seen the "Big Boys" mesh and plastic "cost effective" (cheap) gloves! "Micro-Brew" guys don't make those "cheaper" types of gloves.
My "Leap of Faith" purchase was with 44 Gloves. I used their design tool, created a glove, and made my purchase. They were having a Black Friday sale, guaranteeing delivery before Christmas, if you purchase before or on Black Friday. I didn't get my purchase in until a couple days after, so my glove was not guaranteed to be to me by Christmas. I was told they would do the best they could and it was no problem with me.
My big surprise showed up on December 23rd and it is "AWESOME"! The glove feels "Great", it smells "Excellent", and looks "Spectacular"!!! (A little indulgence because it's my glove!!)

Here is a multi-view picture. I love it and it's me, to a "T"!

My reaction the day the glove arrived. I had to get a gooood smell of the leather!
(My girlfriend's 11 year old son, Sean, pointed out that I couldn't use it to pitch with because of the white! Good thing I don't pitch and play the outfield!!!)

44 Gloves -- Thank you sooo much for getting the glove to me before Christmas! Once I am able to get out and use it, I will post a better review of how the glove performs. So, don't think it will all be "Pros"!!!!

Reds October Wild Card Game - 1 Game 1 Winner

Well Reds friends, peeps, fans... 2013 has come down to one game for a chance to go to the NLDS. The team is in Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates. A good amount of us are nervous and stressed for the game tonight. Lets be the best fans we can for our team and help them take the win in PNC Field.

I'm so hugely proud of this team. The fellas have had to deal with a bunch of crud from fans all season and dealt with it pretty damn well. Expectations were/are so high, the team could have won 162 games and some people would have found fault!!! That isn't an exaggeration. Jay Bruce deleted his twitter account because of negativity from fans.

Great season guys... 90 wins is awesome. Good Luck tonight. Leave it all out on the field, win or lose I'm always in your corner watching your backs.

ONE GAME... ONE WINNER... LETS GO REDS, LETS GO REDS, LETS GO REDS

If you're not up, ready, & shaking for this game, please go to an urgent care facility, you're dead and don't have a heartbeat.

LeCure Sighting at the Alamo, in San Antonio, Texas

On May 15, 2013, there was a LeCure #63 sighting at the Alamo, in San Antonio, Texas! This was a random pic one of my company co-workers snapped. I thought it was relevant to show everyone that I wore my Reds gear in Texas! (if you click on the top pic, you can see an enlarged pic. Sport'n Sammy!)

Red Wings Opener, Twins & Dyl Birthday Baseball

Saturday April 6, 2013, Alicia and I took the boys, Dylan, Sean, Tyler & Travis, to the Rochester Red Wings Home Opener. The Red Wings were facing the Buffalo Bisons, Triple A International League game. We took the boys for baseball and to celebrate some birthdays. Dylan turned 15 on April 4th and Tyler & Travis turned 8 on April 7th.

Front to back - Dylan, Sean, Travis, Tyler, and Me!

Left to Right - Travis, Sean, & Tyler

Before the game, some of the Red Wings did some pre-game warm ups. Throwing, stretching, and running. The boys all went to the field rail hoping for a player to toss them or hand them a ball. Well, Tyler got that opportunity. Mark Sobolewski, 3B #4, for the Red Wings gave Tyler the warm up ball he was using to throw with to get warmed up. Mark walked over, put the ball in Tyler's glove, told Tyler to have fun at the game, and tapped Tyler on the cap brim. Lets just say Tyler was a little more than excited. He talked to me about it for most of the early game!

Thanks Mark, for taking the time, to give Tyler a ball and talk with him.

In the middle of the third inning, I decided to get the boys some cotton candy. Tyler went with me and during our walk he noticed a young boy in a wheel chair. Tyler said to me "that little boy probably can't get baseballs from players, he can't get down to the field. Daddy, I should give him my ball." I was caught off guard and so very proud all at the same time. I told Tyler that would be a great thing to do. We walked over to the boy, Drew, and his father. Tyler walked up, offered his ball, by setting the ball on the boys crossed arms and said "here you can have my ball." The father and Drew both thanked Tyler very much, Drew's father and I shook hands. I was so very proud of my son and his gesture.
I immediately went to the souvenir shop, bought a brand new Int'l League ball, to reward my son for his good deed.

Later, at the bottom of the 6th inning, the boys got to see their names up on the jumbotron for their birthday wishes. The Red Wings didn't do so well, in the game, losing to the Bisons, but it was a very good day. Hopefully the boys remember the day for years to come, I know I will.

Reds Baseball is back yawl!!!! 2013 Game 3 today @ 12:35pm

The Reds baseball season is back. The team dropped the first game to the Angels 3-1 on Monday, in thirteen innings. Last night the Reds won in Walk Off fashion. Joey Votto hit a sharp low line drive to first that hit off of Pujols glove and squirted into right field. Shin Soo Choo scored from second base on the hit, to score the winning run. We fans, can only hope for many more exciting games this season!

Today is the first afternoon game of the 2013 season. Start time is @ 12:35pm. Who's NOT ready? I am absolutely ready. If you are not ready, check your self for signs of life, you may very well be a corpse!

2013 Spring Training Shout Outs... Reds Farm Hands

This blog post is dedicated to sending out shouts to some up and coming Reds players. The following players have been designated for assignment within the Reds Farm System. Each of them have had very good 2013 Spring workouts and games. The Reds farm system is stacked!

Donald Lutz @BraunerHulk - 1stBase/OF
Designated to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos - Double A

Billy Hamilton @B_Ham_3 - Transitioning from Short Stop to Center Field
Designated to the Louisville Bats - Triple A

Tony Cingrani @TonyCingrani - LHP Starter

Henry Rodriguez  @HenryRod39 Infielder

Nick Travieso @NTravieso21 - RHP Starter/Reliever
Designated to the Bako Blaze - Single A (possibly)

Tanner Rahier @trahierss Short Stop/Infielder
(Not positive what level and team at this time)

I know there are a bunch more good prospects in the Reds system and I don't mean to leave them out. It's tough for a fan, from New York, to keep up with all of them. As more hit my radar, I'll certainly add them to this list. Guys, listed above, if you have teammates that I'm not aware of, shoot me a tweet with their name. I'll do the research and get them added ASAP!

All of you have bright futures and make the Reds Farm teams that much more exciting to watch. Keep working hard, doing the little things, and keeping faith. Good Luck to all of you for a great 2013 season.
